Annie, an FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Annie:

1.  Who the heck is Annie?
Annie is our 9-week-old basenji puppy.

2.  I was just at your house and there was no puppy.  Where is she?
Good observation!  She's at Auntie Glo's house in Maine, hanging out with the crabby aunt basenjis and learning some manners.  She's going to come live here as soon as we get the ducks in a row.  We will go see her within the next couple of weeks.  She's also going to learn some pre-show skills while she's there.

3.  Oh, so she's a show dog.  Do you have a buzzy bee for her, too?
Yes, she's a show dog.  Simon ate the buzzy bee, unfortunately, but I'm sure we'll continue to be ridiculous.

4.  I didn't know you were into shows.
That's not a question.

5.  Wow, she looks just like Zelda!  Is she a replacement for Zelda?
Well, the tricolored basenjis do look a lot alike.  But also, it would not be a surprise if they looked similar.  Annie's dam is the same as Zelda's, which makes them half sisters.  Their sires are also related.  So to call her Zelda's sister would not be inaccurate.  She is not a replacement for Zelda.  There's no replacing in this world.

Glo tells me that Annie is actually quite different from Zelda temperamentally, as well.

6.  Are you going to be the kind of people that have 22 dogs and no life?
No.

7.  Won't this extra puppy eat into the busy life you already have?
Yes.

8.  Will the house be messier?
Definitely.

9.  Was this a spur of the moment thing?
That's an interesting question!  We've been talking about getting a "sister" for Simon for a while now.  He's a shy guy with a very quiet life that suits him fine, but we have noticed how much he enjoys playing with his two buddies, Sakeri and Blackberry.  We've talked about how having a confident dog in his life day in and day out might make his life even better, and that basenjis are pack creatures even more than some breeds.  But it was mostly conversation without a plan.  Then we found out that this litter had a little girl in it, and we thought, whoa, that would be kind of cool, but we were sure she was spoken for already.  Then all the pieces came together.  So yes and no.

10.  Who's the lady in the picture with Annie?
That's Annie's amazing breeder.  She is one of my favorite people and has been a great support through the past few years.  She has a picture of our beloved Curie on her refrigerator.
