FRIDAY =(ED) SRS BSNS MOVIE DAY
→The Rite. Oh my god, sucked. I AM SO UPSET, YOU GUYS, I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT FILM FOR WEEKS. Anthony Hopkins was fine, but the dialogue, OH MY GOD IT WAS *SO* BAD, and their characterization of the Devil was atrocious - as IF he'd say "cool, awesome, etc" in a fucking diatribe of any kind. It was just so juvenile. Maybe it could have been salvaged if they'd gone for the R rating but at PG13, I mean, what the fuck. It was shot beautifully, especially in the beginning, but even that slipped - their best shots were during the opening credits. Also I feel like they missed so many wicked-shit opportunities, I cannot even.
→ True Grit. There were only three other people in the theater, so IDK. I was averse to it in the first place a bit, which I will talk about later, but it ended up being great. I can't tell if it was great in its own right or if it just looked really great contrasted after the shit-fest that was The Rite. IDEK. BUT JESUS CHRIST, ROGER DEAKINS. BONER, BONER, AESTHETIC LISS!BONER ALL OVER THE FUCKING PLACE. SERIOUSLY IF I COULD HAVE BABIES WITH HIS SHOTS, I WOULD. I need to make a movie and I need it to have a big budget because I NEED HIM. I NEED ROGER DEAKINS AND I DON'T EVEN CARE HOW MUCH HE COSTS OR WHAT HIS SCHEDULE IS LIKE. AND I AM FREAKING OUT THAT HE WILL RETIRE AND/OR DIE BEFORE I EVER GET TO MEET HIM. /freaking. I loved the character of Maddie and I love the way that Hailee played her. What a little badass. Matt Damon was almost too Matt Damon for me to focus, but Jeff Bridges was the absolute shit. My main issue was that there was too little resolution. Like oh my fucking god, you killed him, can we have a moment to react to this please? IDEK. I'm probably not explaining what I mean but I don't really care enough to lol.
→ The Fighter. Watched it cozied up with spiked chocolate malts. ♥ Christian Bale was awesome, as usual, Marky Mark was okay, Amy Adams was lovely, and Melissa Leo was great. Story - there were a couple of moments that really hurt my heart, and they all had to do with the brothers' kids, now that I think about it. Other than that I found a majority of it really unsympathetic, probably because I personally would never put up with that shit. Like I'd never even be emotionally tugged by any of that, "OMG, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITHOUT DICKIE!?!" shit because I'd probably know that Dickie didn't actually do dick. See what I did there. OR OKAY, I understand that he DID, he taught him super important moves but I guess my problem is that I didn't really SEE that. I just saw him being a pile of shit and IDEK. It was GOOD, but the Oscars, IDK... I feel like if you have a srs bsns movie about ~inspiration~ and family and drug abuse, they nominate it because they feel like they should, not because it's actually good. I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I FUCKING WANT TO WIN, OKAY, I STILL HAVEN'T SEEN THE KING'S SPEECH SO I'M NOT MAKING CALLS YET.
→ Hounddog. Oh my fucking god is probably one of the most beautifully-colored films I have ever seen in my whole goddamn life I can't even breathe. The entire time I was watching it, I was like, "IF I WERE PICSPAMMING THIS, I WOULD NOT EVEN NEED TO PHOTOSHOP IT. AT ALL. NO LEVELS, NO SELECTIVE COLOR, NO ANYTHING, IT IS JUST FUCKING.... SKLJDFLJKASDFA". I would show you but Jason downloaded it, not me. I WILL GET IT THOUGH AND SHOW YOU BECAUSE IT IS SO BEAUTIFUL. Also, IT WAS CUTE AS HELL, I love Dakota Fanning, she is so good, and also omfg David Morse aka Tritter is also in it and he gets struck by lightning and spends the rest of the film acting like a developmentally stunted child, it is so interesting. But my god, the color, AND THESE ADORABLE FUCKING KIDS, YOU GUYS, OH MY GOD IT BROKE MY HEART, THE INNOCENCE OF IT ALL AND HOW THE WORLD TURNS IT TO SHIT, OMG. YOU NEED TO SEE THIS PROBABLY.
^^ ANYWAY, LOOK AT THIS, BITCHES GETTIN' SHIT DONE.
It was a fantastic weekend, I will write about the rest of it when I get up, I am too tired rn. TELL ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THESE FILMS. OR ANY FILMS.
