WORK TODAY STARTED SHITTY AND THEN TURNED AWESOME. This guy, Ted. He always calls and he is SUCH a jerk to everybody, he made Jane cry and everyone wants him fired except for the guy who owns the company, so of course he gets to stay, and every time I see his name on the caller ID I fucking freak out because I just know he's going to make me miserable. Except today, I was in NO mood at all for his condescending bullshit. So I answer. He asks for people who are not in the office, they were out at a conference. This is not my problem. He asks who else can answer his question, and nobody currently in the office CAN - they are not equipped with that knowledge and/or legal ability to make decisions regarding it. So I tell him that yeah, so-and-so IS the one who deals with that, yes, but he's out for the day. "WELL, THAT DOESN'T HELP ME, THEM NOT BEING IN THE OFFICE TODAY, DOES IT. SO, LET'S JUST PRETEND THAT THEY'RE DEAD - *THEN* WHAT WOULD YOU DO?!" I said, "UM, WE'D PROBABLY HIRE NEW PEOPLE WHO COULD ANSWER YOUR QUESTION." And he just SAT there and then was like, "... Wow. Well, I'm stumped. That's probably the best answer I've ever gotten to that question," (lol, saying this as if he asks it a lot, which he does, loser), "Okay. I know where to go, I know how I can figure it out. Thanks!" IT MADE MY DAY. SECRET TIP: IF YOU'RE HAVING A BAD DAY, MAKE YOUR *OWN* DAY, BY USING THAT IMPATIENCE TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, TO STAND UP TO SOMEBODY WHO HAS ALWAYS BUGGED. Seriously, I was on air like, all day after that.
I read a fantastic article about the correlation between creativity and insomnia. They talk about how this guy stayed up for 200 hours once and hallucinated all kinds of shit, so they hypothesize that making art really super late at night is a very minor form of that - as it gets later and you get more tired, the lines between reality and non-reality blur a little bit and give you a creative edge. You don't hallucinate, by any means, but you're just a bit more open to the non-reality of artistic experience. The fact that the rest of the world is quiet and asleep also helps, less distraction and/or pressure to get out and be social, or run errands - everything is closed anyway. That was not in the article, that's just what I personally think of when I ask myself why I like editing at night.
Speaking of, LOL. Final Cut just crashed. OBVIOUSLY whatever clip I just placed was a bad choice, and this is art's way of saving itself. Win. TOO BAD I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER WHAT I DID LAST. WHATEVER. Let's hope history does not repeat itself. No, but this is fantastic - I was telling
januarynineteen and I believe
london_fan as well that editing has been difficult lately because I haven't been inspired by the show itself. I edit when I have something I need to say, to work out or explain or emphasize, and they haven't really given me anything that I've had a lot of passion and feeling for lately - it's been clear-cut to me, I didn't feel like any of it needed (or deserved) emotional restatement. But then tonight happened and I am completely buzzed. ♥ I've missed this. I've even missed the way my neck starts to hurt.
