Work yesterday, blah blah. I'm worried that I'll run out of work because I finally finished this huge pile of data input so now I have no idea what I'm going to do all day.
AND OKAY, DRIVING THIS MORNING. I wasn't sure if I was especially impatient or if people on the road were especially slow, I thought it was the former until I heard Matt bitching about how he got stuck behind a bunch of slow people on the road. Then I knew it was the latter. Either way, it was horrendous, I had to go to the bagel shop just to fucking cope.
Clay today, WE RAKU FIRED OUR SHIT, EXCEPT NOT MINE BECAUSE OH, IT WASN'T DONE BEING BISQUE-FIRED. What. This pisses me off, I came in on Friday FOR NO OTHER REASON THAN TO PUT THOSE IN THE FIRING ROOM TO BE DONE. And they aren't done? It's Tuesday, I mean, IDK, I didn't think it'd be that unreasonable and I also kind of thought that if you were doing something specialized like raku, that you'd kind of make sure everything FOR that special~ firing was done. I complained about this and he mentioned, ~weather permitting~, having another raku fire and god, we better, I was so excited, it's my favorite aesthetic, it turns out SUCH gorgeous and shiny shit with like a million colors. Matt and I spoke all of 5 words to each other today because I was upset with him and it sucked and was shitty and I have no idea what's going on, basically. I will elaborate when he and I finish this conversation that he started after I left.
My shit obviously didn't get raku fired, so I finished my salt & pepper shakers (they're so pretty! they're teal and I scraped swirlies into them!), glazed my geometric box, painted my mug (I LOVE MY MUG, I HOPE IT DOESN'T DIE. I did ~slip-trailing~ on it, which means there are elevated lines and dots, I painted those pink and I painted the rest black dkls;fjas), and put my swirly sculpture in to be fired. I HAVE SO MUCH IN THE KILN ROOM RIGHT NOW, I'M SO EXCITED. Plus, I'm pretty much done with everything now, it fucking freaks me out, these past couple of weeks have been so busy/non-stop/productive. I never did make a saucer, but whatever, he cut me off lol. He took the clay awayyyy :( :( :(
BUT OH MAN, YOU GUYS, I brought my camera so I could take photos. It was awesome because he wanted me to help move the pottery around but I told him I just wanted to take pictures if I could and he let me, it wasn't even a second thought or an issue. SO LOOK, OMG FIRE FIRE. I'll tell you the process - okay. First, Laz cranked open the kiln that he brought outside. Then people had to pick up the GLOWING ORANGE POTTERY with long metal tongs, and then drop them into piles of newspaper, WHICH LIT ON FIRE FROM THE HEAT. Then someone had to cover up the fire with a trash can, to prevent any oxygen from getting in. After a few minutes when the fires inside the cans went out, they had to pick the pottery out of the burnt newspaper and drop it into a bucket of cold water. AND THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL.
Laz! He is the coolest!
hot as fuck and I'm lovin it.
pull them out, drop them in newspaper...
the heat TORCHES THE PAPER. hkjlsdfhkla
make sure no oxygen can get in under the bottom by BURYING IT IN SAND.
when you lift up the cans, this is what you see. ♥ ♥
Laz taking the pots out of water, LOOK AT HOW FUCKING PRETTY THEY ARE, I CANNOT EVEN.
I LOVED THAT HORNED THING ON THERE. I HOPE IT TURNED OUT.
I love so much about the things raku firing chooses to be.
