The montages on this year's Oscars are fucking beautiful. I don't remember them ever being so thought-out and aligned so well. And I don't know how many people even think of this - but someone had to do this. Someone had to put this together. It took them hours. Days, probably. Someone had to go through years of footage to put this all together in such an artistic way. The "thank you!!" montages for Best Actor/Actress. And for their In Memoriam thing - how there were about 10 little screens going at the same time, those are 10 separate videos and that took so much time. And this Best Picture montage - where they intercut clips from previous Oscar-winning pictures with scenes/montages from each of the nominees in a way that made sense and tied to all together, I've never seen anything like it. Like that shot from Shindler's List over dialogue from The Reader. All of it. I don't think people really appreciate how much fucking time that took, to find all of those parallels like that, and those lines in each of the current films that would be able to link back to old ones that way. Do you know how well you'd have to know all of those films in order to pull that off?! It just blew me away and gave me fucking goosebumps and regardless of who won what tonight (I'm thrilled, I will say), that's what I really wanted to make an entry about. Because it really impressed me this year, and it made a fucking difference to me. And the ceremony itself, and all the sparkles on the 8! Someone had to sit and do that! Someone had to make that blue background with all the faded movie scenes laying over it. I don't know. I just feel like lots of amazing, brilliant, and creative people are overlooked. I want to win an Oscar someday just so I can thank the guy or girl who edited the montages that night.
