It wasn’t what she expected, the kiss.
When Mike pulled her face to his, he didn’t catch Elizabeth by surprise. They both knew the lunch was more than lunch, although she wouldn’t have gone so far as to call it a date.
Still, he tasted better than she expected. He kissed better than she expected, too. Perhaps he had reason to believe he could achieve her this way.
For all his charm, though, Elizabeth wasn’t ready for this. Somehow she felt him sense it. He pulled away.
She sat there for a moment, eyes closed, contemplating how to deny him.
