Wow, it's been a long time since I've updated this thing. But I have good reason, honest! I've just come off three weeks of rotation hell...one week of ICU, and followed by two weeks of small animal surgery, followed by the current two week rotation in anesthesia. PHew.
All I can say is that small animal surgery kicked my ass, and that I am SO glad not to have to work 20+ hour days anymore. I think what really did me in was the 36 hour shift I did in ICU just prior to SA surgery...one of the techs called in sick so I got nominated to fill that shift since I was on call. It was all good, until they made me sit through grand rounds, and then topic rounds. I think I was sleeping with my eyes open at one point.
Small animal surgery was good, looking back on it, although hellish hours. I had some pretty intense patients, which was interesting to see, but definitely took a lot out of me. Not to mention the pschyo clients, but that's another story. Its done.
I've finished the first week of anesthesia...which is fine, its just a bit of deja vu. (I worked there for four months between 2nd and 3rd year.). So its really not that stressful for me, its just...weird.
Hard to believe though, just one more week of school, then one written exam and one osce on the 16th, and I'm done. I just paid my licensing dues today for the rest of the year. (What a rip, lemme tell you.) But anyway.
I'm officially licensed as of May 7th...and I start work the same day.
Where did the past four years go? Sometimes it seems like eons have passed, and others, like right now, its seems like just yesterday. Wow. I'm almost a real vet :D. I still can't decided if I'm scared out of my mind or excited.
