When I got home from having a delightful coffee and chat with Gillian this evening, I sat down at my laptop with the intention of finding my sister and getting my niece on the webcam again, for it has been a while since I saw her beautiful smiling face. Alas, Andrea was off to bed and the kids were sleeping, so that didn't work out.
But while I was waiting for Andrea to reply to my message, something very neat happened. To pass the time, I started offhandedly browsing sites for books about lesbian images, evil lesbians, etc. in order to see what's out there that might be useful to me when I get down to really honing my paper for publication. And wouldn't you know it, I found some books that are absolutely PERFECT for what I need, and some of them are pretty darn cheap in the Amazon Marketplace. So of course, I spent a bunch of money on books.
However, the point here is that I'm sitting at this computer tonight all excited about pursuing some independent scholarship -- my mind alive with the possibilities of maybe writing about lesbian representation in shows other than Buffy when I get done (after I saw a book of criticism on The L Word that seems like something I might like to add to my collection when next I'm in the midst of a book frenzy). I was wondering how I'd get myself motivated to actually work on my paper, seeing as I'm not feeling all that motivated in general these days. It seems that all it tooke was a little browse through Google, Amazon, and the U of M library database.
In negative news, it seems that the major source that I used for much of my original paper is no longer available online. Has anyone out there seen Edwina Bartlem's paper called "Coming Out On A Mouth Of Hell" anywhere? I know I printed it and have it somewhere or other, but with the move I've no idea where -- plus, I can't really use it for a reference anymore if there's nowhere I can direct people to in order for them to find the bloody thing.
Anyway...yay me!
