Just this morning I was talking to a co-worker about my plan to make a self-watering container garden out of some empty cat litter buckets.

Self-watering? Do tell more?

(though I'm short on cat litter buckets (the pine stuff only comes in bags, darn it) & we learned last year that protein jugs don't' work so well, I'm still interested.)

Ooh, thanks! I've been thinking about growing herbs.

I don't have any outdoor dirt anymore since I moved in with S, so I brought most of my succulent garden indoors in pots.

S just planted a pot with a hops rhizome last night and I put in the window with the rest. Hopefully it will grow and eventually supplement his home-brewing :)

I've really been pleased with our herb-growing, though there have been some ups and downs.

Chives are amazingly easy.

The best thing though, was the first year we had an herb garden, and, at Thanksgiving, I got to walk outside and pick the herbs for our turkey! That was just .. neat. Joyful, even. Amazing.

That little click of, "Oh, so that's why these are thanksgiving herbs!..." wonderful.
