So why's it so bad

More on the school shooting

This really bothers me.

Columbine did, and so does this, largely because... It just shouldn't be, but it is. Infact, it's only chance that it didn't happen at my high school.

I was talking with my buddy Rick at work, he's a few years old than me, went to HS back in the sixties. I asked him if things were that bad when he went.

They weren't. He had a great time.

We batted this back and forth a little, trying to find out what had changed.

Here's what we came up with:
When I went to HS, unless you were getting laid, you were a loser. There was no way outta this. Things were probably different if you were a girl, but one way or another chances were you thought you were a loser.

When Rick went to school*, getting laid in HS was like the lottery. You knew someone somewhere was going to win it, but it wasn't going to be you. After all, the sexual revolution didn't happen until I was a senior.

He told me, "If not getting laid means that you're a loser, you're going to have problems".

I saw some pictures of the kid on the news. Chubby kid, slight hump, probably from spending too long staring at a computer or the TV. No support network either.

It seems to me that this is pretty much all it comes down to.

'Lissa, can you post something about this and see if anyone you know has any ideas?
asked me to post, essentially, why was high school so much harder (and potentially dangerous) for us (Gens X and Y) than it was for the previous generations?

So, I've posted. What do you think?
