mario!
it's so good to hear from you. that's pretty funny that berlin is back in action on the nationalism. is the european meitserschaft that big of a deal? i dont think we're getting much coverage of it over here. let me know who wins (or..more specifically, let me know when germany loses and how people take it).
as for me, i've been on the road since i left japan and i think i will still feel like i'm on it until my job finally starts on monday. i have never been so happy to start working. life has been busy.
after i left tokyo i spent a whirlwind 2 weeks in new york city. it was pretty awesome. i spent a lot of time hanging out with "the girls" (erica is one of them, i dont think you know the rest) and it felt like 'sex in the city'. brunch every morning and tons of girl-talk and good tasting alcoholic drinks.
i also put together that treasure hunt for that boy i was telling you about. it was pretty damned elaborate and i buried a HUGE box in the ground in central park. unfortunately, by the time he found it a couple of days later, someone had stolen it. total bummer. a lot of good stuff was lost, including a ticket to go see the new indiana jones. well i met up with him in the park and we dug tons of holes together while i made him guess everything that was in the box. then we hightailed it downtown and caught indiana jones. what a great movie! i didn't see him again much after that. which was pretty lame. but, i think i've managed to kill off my feelings for him in that time period. i think it was a smart move on my part. he's kind of a jerk.
sooo after new york, i went up to massachusetts to visit my 'old stomping grounds'. i was there for only 4 days, but they were REALLY nice ones. I spent most of my time with my friends dan cooper and penny lane.
being around them really reminded me what i like about people and i really felt like myself. also, dan has a motorcycle now and we rode around on it everywhere. it was so fun. i want one so bad.
it was also really nice to be back around a community of people who make film. i need to find that again in my life. people to watch movies with and talk about them with and help each other make them. i didnt realize how valuable that community was until i re-visited it.
actually, i can't really remember why i didn't like living there... the town is beautiful and full of friendly people my age. the whole place is set up for young people with my interests. i get to see free movies at the movie theater and don't have to stay out late because the bars all close at 2am! it's kind of a dream town....but i guess everything can look nice in retrospect.
anyway now i'm back in arkansas. i arrived last monday and start my job the following monday. in this week, three things will happen. i will sort and reorganize my material life (aka my stuff), i will teach english to my stepdad's friend from argentina everyday, and i will participate in the 48 hour film project (traveling competition where you and a team have to write, shoot, and edit a short film in 48hours). it's a busy week! it's a busy life!
this was a long email.
thanks for reading.
i love you!
