compu-tech paragraph 1 of 2: i got the webcams working, got the printer working, swapped the hard drive in & copied over the rest of my world. still can't get the ide dvdrom working, but it's reading cds, which is even weirder. in the interest of troubleshooting but partly just for the upgrade, i picked up a new sata dvdrom & installed that... but ( Read more... )

each time i went skydiving, i got to wear an altimeter. i didn't realize it was an extra perk! i honestly didn't wanna know how high up i was...i was panicky enough! also, when the plan was for me to pull my own rip cord, i couldn't find it. figures.

haha, well, we probably COULD'VE worn them the first time, but wouldn't've thought to ask. it wasn't a "perk" so much as a "you have to know at what altitudes to do these things for when you do it without me strapped to your back" sort of thing.

compu-tech paragraph 2 of 2: the new netbook arrived. it's still kind of a question mark as to whether it's working right, but it may just be that the thing takes a longer time to finish booting x than i'm accustomed to. it also may be related to how hot it runs - when i gave it a cooler surface, it seemed to work better. that smacks of poor craftmanship to me, but whatever, it's still warrantied. it at least is picking up wireless properly & can get into my home box remotely, so it'll be fine for the trip. & the keymap is working this time. 9_9

My old averatec needed a very specific series of configuration tweaks to use the scalable processor features in the 2.6 kernel; I'd be willing to bet if you have an atom processor that a few acpi settings might mean the difference between hot and sluggish and chilled and speedy.

Glad you found a bikini that will work; it'd be a travesty to go nude. ;)

Those plugs are lovely and the price tag is even better.

oh you should totally go. it'll be easier without the dreads, too - it's tough to not get smacked in the face by them for all of freefall.

oh btw, i never did get that honey you sent...
