Daesung woke up quietly sobbing to himself. He had managed to have a few nights of dreamless sleep, being so busy with preparing for the world tour, studying his Japanese, and recording for Big Bang's new album. But that night he had let his mind wander before he went to sleep and next thing he knew he was driving down that road again, the curve coming up, the taxi ahead of him, feeling the thump... It was dark and he was alone. Whispers of "Murderer. Your fans will leave you. Murderer. Your friends will hate you. Murder..." had managed to start before he could wake himself up, the whispers ringing in his ears as he sat up.
He remembered that Tabi was asleep in the next room, too tired from rehearsals to go all the way back to his villa, at least that's what Tabi claimed, before demanding a piggy back ride to the van waiting to drive Daesung back.
He took a breath to help stop the crying, wiped his eyes, then got up to get something to drink. However, when he opened his door, he saw the back of someone's head looking at the t.v., the channels changing back and forth between some musical and the news
"Oh, I didn't wake you up, did I? I've been practicing that Fantastic Baby dance so much my body refuses to stop now," Tabi said, half-grinning, imitating the dance moves from torso up. "So I figured there would be something on to distract me. Then I found this movie, but it was a musical, and then my arms started again..." He resumed waving his arms back and forth.
"Ya, hyung, you're weird, you know that?" Daesung laughed, lightly shoving Tabi and taking a seat next to him on the couch. Tabi just grinned and started wiggling his legs at Daesung in what could only be described as the bad interpretive dance version of what they had been practicing that week. Daesung just looked at the tall blue haired man flailing about and started watching the musical with him, a small smile appearing, his nightmare becoming a fuzzy memory for the moment.
"Ha, knew it would help", Tabi whispered to himself, smiling. But he underestimated how loudly he said it, when Dae turned to look at him.
"Knew what would help?" he inquired.
"UH... NOTHING, NOPE, NO IDEA TO WHAT YOU ARE REFERRING..."
"Hyung, you just said something about knowing something would help"
"Silly Dae, you're hearing things! I said nothing, did I kick you when I was dancing a few minutes ago?"
"YA, seriously, what did you say!?" Daesung demanded, his smile now gone.
The stupid grin that was on Tabi's face faded now as well.
"Well, I mean... I heard you wake up..."
"Oh."
"And I didn't want you to cry anymore."
"Oh..."
"So I figured I'd sit out here till you either came out or went back to bed. I wanted to make sure you were okay."
"Hyung... I..." Dae said quietly, tears starting to form again, as he felt a combination of gratitude and sadness.
"Sorry, I'm going to go back in my room, I'm sorry for waking you, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry..." Daesung didn't know who he was apologizing to now.
As he turned around to head back to his room before the tears could fall, Daesung felt a pair of arms surround him in a tight embrace.
"Hey, I'll stay by your side, you know that, right?"
"I... Yeah, I know." Daesung turned around to face him, but Tabi ran by Daesung, and buried himself under the covers, mumbling something about how he called that side and if Dae snores he reserves the right to kick him so no complaining.
"Uh, what are you doing?"
"Oh, right, well, I don't want you to be sad anymore, even if it's just for tonight, so I'm going to stay by your side. I know I can't change what happened, but I'll be by your side, waiting for you to shine again. Or something."
Daesung let a few tears fall, but they were tears of relief and love this time, and as he got into bed next to the tuft of blue hair and smiling eyes peeking out over the top of the blanket, he knew that he would finally have at least one peaceful night.
