next week is my last week of camp! :( ahh im going to miss everyone so much.. half the counselors already left for various reasons. but ohh i cant wait to leave in 20 days... hallelujah
So apparently everyone at Duke is an alcoholic. haha. Well i guess i sort of knew that, but still... this year all the freshman have to take this stupid Alcohol Education course before we even get to school. are u kidding me ?? nope. the email I received is pretty funny though..
"Last year, during orientation, a large number of first-year students found
themselves in social settings where alcohol was readily available to them.
Many of them chose to disregard university policy and state law by consuming
alcohol. What they did not know was that agents from North Carolina Alcohol
Law Enforcement (ALE) were conducting a special "back to school" operation.
The students found themselves with alcohol citations their second evening at
college! Resolving the citations with the City of Durham was stressful and
time-consuming; they had to participate in the university's disciplinary
process as well. A large majority of the students we spoke with said this
experience was not one they had expected to have as part of their collegiate
journey. These events of a year ago provide one example of how the use of
alcohol affects individual, social and residential life at Duke.
Accordingly, we think it is important that you participate in the program
detailed below.
As a member of the Class of 2010, we expect you to complete AlcoholEdu, an
online, science-based course, before you arrive on campus. AlcoholEdu
provides detailed information about alcohol and its effects on the body and
mind. Whether you drink or not, the goals of the course are to help you
make well informed decisions about alcohol and to help you address the
drinking behavior of your peers."
