I'm going to write a post because I'm still drinking my coffee, so it's not time to work yet, but writing a post is better than dicking around on the Internet.
Also I haven't posted since last Saturday. I live!
This week I:
- Edited chapters 26 and 27 of G&F (and probably more before the end of the day)
- Beta-read
ketsugami's new "short" story (15,000 words short. I think you have to call that a novelette).
- Watched the first series of the 2013 Blandings. It features Jennifer Saunders as Lady Constance Keeble, which is really all you need to know. All in all, I'd rate it a solid B for Wodehouse adaptations, with the last two episodes reaching an A. ("Lord Emsworth and the Girl Friend" and "Problems with Drink"). The characters strike me as... more zany than their counterparts in the books, in general? Which is not necessarily to the good; they're pretty zany to begin with.
But oh god the costumes. I want some of Freddie's suits. And Monica Simmons, the pigwoman in the final episode, is pretty much my fashion ideal. (Too bad I will never look as stately and Amazonian as she).
- Watched an episode of Wodehouse Playhouse, a series from 1975. The story was from the Mr. Mulliner series, about two crossword enthusiasts in love, one of whom has a terrible stammer--and how he cures himself of that. Ol' Plum himself introduces the episodes in the first and second series, at the ripe age of 93 (and actually, the last year of his life). I guess those Larsen exercises really work.
- Sent out the casting questionnaire for Midsummer Mischief. I hope it entertains some of you :)
- Worked my ass off at day job. We're coming up to a release, and additionally, the founder of the company passed away this week, so there was a lot of scrambling associated with that.
- Continued to listen to Summer Lightning, the third? fourth? Blandings novel, on Matt's and my shared commute. It introduces both Uncle Gally and the Empress of Blandings, two important characters in Midsummer Mischief. It's just a shame that the audio quality for this offering is shit, and the narrator is absolutely terrible. (We've left the excellent Jonathan Cecil behind). He reads too fast, and makes Lord Emsworth sound like he's eighty years old and missing all his teeth.
- When commuting on my own, I continue to listen to Siege and Storm. Just got to the reveal about Sturmhond's identity. Watch me flail as I remember all the ways Bardugo set this up in book one! I wish I had half her (seemingly) effortless storytelling skill. (Although I know authors and the writing process enough to know it's probably not nearly as effortless as it appears).
- Failed to get to the Pat Rothfuss signing at Pandemonium Books, due to ticketing snafus.
- Will probably not get to Vericon today, because a) I have editing to do, b) I seem to be coming down with something, having woken up full of phlegm, 2) I'm lazy, and going to Vericon would involve getting into real clothes, and I'm not having any of that.
