No worries about the jargon and the lore. That's one of the things I enjoyed, actually -- a sense that, although I didn't understand what you were saying, there was an underlying logic which I would appreciate if I did.
Others have recommended Morrowind to me as well -- I keep meaning to check it out. I've also been tempted by Oblivion, for an "I want to wander around a giant sprawling world and do more or less whatever catches my fancy" experience. Lately I've been playing Minecraft for that, but it will inevitably run dry eventually, and it's nice to know there's other stuff out there.
(Sorry for the delay of this response. Arisia, and Precon, and illness, and too many undone things in my life causing me to hole up behind a wall of guilt for a while. Poking my head out again... :-)

This is a worry I have, too :) For different reasons than you. I am going to endeavor to finish editing Gods & Fathers and have it on submission before I start playing.
I think you underestimate the power of Morrowind/Dunmer love for making your chosen clique the cool one. :)
I have a bad habit of really enjoying character creation more than playing, though, ESPECIALLY in TES games, so I have no idea what I would eventually stick with. XD

I might be into playing this. I heart Elder Scrolls with a hearty heart, but MMOs are twitch-inducing.

I can understand that. Well, you are welcome to join us, if you ever do.

But if anything is going to get me to jump into an MMO, it'll either be this or the WoD one.
