1. The con seemed more diverse than I was expecting, although it was still very white.

2. James MacDonald is apparently "Uncle Jim," at least to VPers.

3. Debra Doyle told me she quite liked the first chapter of Gods and Fathers, and said it had a "killer first line ( Read more... )

"6. Sonya Taaffe was also very kind, and chuffed to hear that I enjoyed the panel she led. I asked her about the Wittgenstein ghost poem she mentioned, and she told me it was published in an obscure journal, but offered to email me a copy. "

So is Sonya like actually famous? I know her in way entirely unrelated to writing. :) Also if you think you're very far from her in social connections, you are wrong. :)

I don't know if she's like, "giants of SFF"-famous, but she appears to be known for her SFF-themed poetry--in particular her "ghost poems." She's apparently well-known enough that she was listed as a guest for ReaderCon, and led a panel I went to. So... take that for what it's worth, I guess.

I figured she was not too far off my circle of friends. I ran into her hanging out with Kara H. and Sandry before the ReaderCon Miscellany where Sassafras performed.

One of the members of Sassafrass is my cousin and another is my girlfriend. LJ-stalking additionally indicates we just missed one another at Brandeis. Also, hello. I do owe you Wittgenstein, but it's been a crisis week.

Oh, hi there! LJ-stalking FTW!

And the Boston-area geek community is an exceedingly smaller world, isn't it?
