Staycation all I ever wanted

May 31, 2013 17:11

I took Thursday and Friday off from work last week; combined with the Memorial Day holiday, I had a five-day staycation.

And it was a productive one! I set myself two goals for the holiday:
- finish my novel
- clean the sewing room

... and I finished both of those.

(More or less on the sewing room. It's the kind of place where there's always more work to be done, but it's actually to the point where I can sew in it again).

I also managed to block one of the pieces of lace knitting I finished in, oh, 2009, and never blocked.

(still two more to go...)

I'm still not sure what the heck I'll do with this. It's kind of a mini-shawl, more like a scarf, and I hardly ever wear scarves. Especially not mohair ones in the middle of summer.

I am, naturally, a process knitter.

Other things I did on my staycation.... hmm. Decluttered some stuff and got rid of it on Freecycle. (Never as much as I want, though... stupid no-shows).

I saw Star Trek: Into Darkness at Tuesday-discount prices. It was... pretty, but definitely not Star Trek. (And I say this as someone who is in no way a Trekkie). As I said on Facebook, it made me want to re-watch B5--that is, it made me crave good ensemble scifi.

I did enjoy seeing Frumious Bandersnatch punch people.

I liked the tiiiiiiiniest glimpse we got of reboot!Klingons. Would have loved more of that. I have a soft spot for them.

All in all, I'm glad I paid no more than $5.50/person to see it.

I am going to be sending out invitations for the July party soon. If you got an invite last year, you'll probably get one this year. If you're not local, I probably will pass you over unless I know you want to be on my party list. If you think I might miss you, let me know now.

Reminder that I am still looking for roommates for Consequences... right now we have enough for a 2 bedroom lodge.

Right now I am also seeing especially good prices on a flight from Boston to Heathrow via Shannon, Ireland on Aer Lingus--$727, as opposed to the $890 a nonstop flight is running. That's a big difference for two people. I did say I wanted a direct flight this year, but do I $300-want a direct flight? Probably not.
