Things are tough all over

This has been a rough week.

Thing the first: we had to have my beloved Yama put to sleep on Monday morning.

As I wrote about here, he'd been diagnosed with kidney failure on Tuesday of last week. I could tell you the facts and figures of his illness, but I am sick of talking about how he suffered. Suffice it to say, on Sunday night it became ( Read more... )

larp, cracks in the orb, navel gazing, sadness, cats, health

I can sympathize with these players if their fairly new- I didn't know what to put on my questionnaires when I first started either. But if they already know they have a strong preference against a trope, they probably aren't that new.

I can also sympathize if the thing they really dislike is obscure and unexpected. But if it's not terribly uncommon and their preference is so strong that they feel they absolutely can't enjoy a LARP with it in their character, they should think to mention it on their questionnaires, especially if the questionnaire contained an "Anything else?" section. And if they didn't, they should try to be flexible and apologetic to the GM.

I wouldn't call them a kookaburra. That's going to tempt people to sing whenever they hear it. And by that I mean I'm going to sing whenever I hear/read it.

*hugs*

Also, dingo? Cast them as the potted plant in the corner. If they have no interest in the actual thematic elements of the game, and they want a non-central role... potted plant it is! (Yes, I am referencing a larp you've played, but only partly.)

Also, I recommend "Cane Toad" for the players who don't seem like they're going to be a problem until it's too late. It captures the essence of something that is not bad, and is perfectly good and happy in its preferred habitat, but when put in another seemingly-innocuous place causes all sorts of problems.

lol Chad might have a name there. We should now call all players who say "I'll be happy with anything" but then are not happy with what they get a "potted plant".

So sorry to hear about Yama. It sounds like you gave him a good life and a loving home. And speaking as someone who recently shepherded a cat through renal failure (that's her in the icon), it is no fun for anyone involved. You made the kindest choice.
