My life, such as it is.

I was surprised to look back and see that, before my SWTOR post yesterday, I hadn't posted for several weeks. That is an unusually long gap for me.

I think the gap can be explained by feeling burned out after several very busy weekends, which led to me feeling antisocial, which led to me retreating into games, which left me a mix of strangely social and antisocial. Oh, also, somewhere in there my antidepressant prescription refills got delayed by having to go back to my doctor, so there was chemical ick going on, too.

But I seem to be out of the worst of it now.

And what have I been doing that hasn't been game-related?

- Working on Cracks in the Orb. Guys, I am having so much fun writing the character I'm working on now. I never realized it before, but Brust's world is refreshingly egalitarian in terms of gender roles in fantasy novels. I think my take on Dragaera probably has more alternate sexualities than Brust intended, though, but I'm okay with that. It's fanfic, basically.

I'm meeting with Bernie tonight at BSCF to talk about the wargame. I'm kind of curious what his take is on what I've written so far...

I still need to write MOAR. So much moar.

- Speaking of Brust, he's having surgery in a few weeks to implant an automatic defibrillator to control his congestive heart failure :( Scott Lynch was collecting money for a fund that would assist him and Emma Bull (also having surgery) but also fund Lynch's web serial. Which was kind of like... okay. I have no interest in funding your web serial.

So instead of giving to that initiative, I actually tracked down Brust's donate page, and send him a few bucks. A few hours later, I even got a brief thank you note from Steve himself :)

Brust has health insurance--now--but this is a recent development. His medical expenses, and the expenses of taking time out of writing for recovery, are going to be tough on him financially, and I get the impression he's not exactly rolling in the dough.

And let me tell you how much it pisses me off that in the "land of opportunity," someone who has given so much joy to so many people with his creative talent has to resort to crowd-funding his medical bills. Grrr.

- Dia de Los Sobres Dos happened, and I helped GM Garden of Forking Paths, and played in Folding the River as Brigadier General Gerda Renzella.

I have... feelings about FtR, some of which are spoilery. I will say this: I loved Gerda as a character. I loved the writing of the character sheet--wired_lizard and mllelaurel are always good for that. It was odd-but-excellent to play a character who was so far from me on the Kinsey scale, and I enjoyed angsting at Sarah J as my love interest.

But at the end of the day, I honestly felt a little in the dark as to all the World-Changing Events that were happening in the game, and I spent a large chunk of the game feeling like I had nothing to do :(

- I went to board gaming at Mel and Will's. I luff them :) We played Mansions of Madness, and Sentinels (naturally), and I finally played Race for the Galaxy, which I definitely want to play again. I ate lots of junk food. Mel and Will once again tried to convince us to play WoW again. So far we remain adamant.

- Work has been busy, sometimes in rewarding ways, sometimes in frustrating and unrewarding ones. Such is career. My manager remains awesome, however... you might even say boss-some ;) And I had a glowing mid-year review yesterday, so that makes me feel good about my job again.

- I have Masquerade this weekend. I am feeling... unmotivated towards it. The MES just approved an xp floor for US oWOD players which basically granted anyone who started playing after, I think, June 2010, the minimum XP they would have gained for playing that long, minus any actual gained XP. For me that worked out to 104, since I had just started. That is a HUGE amount of points in MET, and to be frank, I felt overwhelmed at first, because my character's thing is that she's really new and inexperienced at being a vamp. I wasn't suddenly going to have her running around with Majesty.

But thankfully, denimskater pointed out to me that I don't have to spend it all at once. So instead, I spent maybe 10 points of it, and I'll keep the rest for increased awesomeness in months to come.

- Um, I dunno? I've gone back to using Firefox again, because Chrome has become utterly unusable on my Macbook Pro, basically stuttering to halt with loud disk writes every time I load a page with Flash on it. And all the pages I work on have Flash on them :(
