Tired but accomplished

Last night was Alison's delightful thirtieth birthday party. I got myself dolled up in my 17th century dress again--I even curled my hair and *gasp* attempted to do eye makeup-- and got to hang out with a bunch of other nerds in masks.

I dunno, I had fun, but I felt unusually awkward, for some reason. I feel like every conversation I had ran out of steam too quickly and we were left staring at each other awkwardly. I'm usually quite good at pretending to be extroverted, at least, so this was a surprise to me.

The one thing notable is that I may have been talked into bidding game(s) for SLAW in November by the lovely Sarah J. When my Empress Zerika wants me to run games, how can this poor scholar refuse? Since my current writing project--my novel Gods and Fathers--is about one (1) final showdown away from being finished, I need to start thinking of what my next writing project will be, and dammit, I want to write another LARP. Matt is hesitant to bid any of our joint ideas before they're more fully fleshed out, but I have no such reservations, and I totally have time to finish Cracks in the Orb, my Dragaeran comedy of manners game.

Of course, when I mentioned that to Sarah, she said, "Honestly, it'd be great if you'd just run League." I mentioned my concerns about running League again--number of players, space--and I feel like she addressed them pretty well. There are a lot of new LARPers at WPI, thanks to her, and she told me that, if I gave her enough time, it would be possible to get more space beyond the usual "floor of Salisbury Labs."

When I suggested running LXHS at WPI to Matt, he twitched, but he didn't outright veto it. I take that as tacit approval ;)

The party ended right at 10, and we got home and into bed before 11:30. Then I woke up at 3:30 am with intestinal funkiness. (Sadly, very little George Clinton was involved). Couldn't get back to sleep. For two hours I lay there, and cogitated, and had some interesting insights.

- Got a grasp on what the faction I was in charge of might want to be doing in natbudin/v_cat's wedding LARP
- Based on my Jesriah casting hint that arrived some time after I went to bed, I began planning out a costume--a kimono-like, trailing dress made out of hospital gowns. I'll draw a picture when I get home tonight. Now, I just need to find some hospital gowns...
- I pondered some of the character concepts for Cracks in the Orb--if I'm going to try to bid it.

At around 5:30, I decided I wasn't getting back to sleep, so I got up. I penned an email to the other wedding LARP writers about my faction, and then I sat down to writing.

You might have seen me comment on Facebook this weekend that I was trying (sorta) to finish Gods and Fathers this weekend. Well, that did not happen. I lacked the necessary resolve. But! I did write two scenes toward that end, finishing off the tortured love plot. Now, onto the final showdown, which will be some number of scenes from some number of characters' points of view. Aren't I so descriptive?

Matt got up around 6am and made me breakfast, which we ate while watching episode 2 of Kuroshitsuji, a.k.a. Black Butler. Again, see my comments on FB about it, but dude, this is totally Hellsing for folks who didn't think there was enough ghei in Hellsing. It hits all the same buttons for me, re: power dynamics, etc.

Also, I would like a cut of this which removes all the scenes with the servants other than Sebastian.

Then off to work, where my old boss--who left the company about a year and a half ago--has come back!

And therapy tonight.

So I feel good. Except that I feel sick and feverish. Urk.
