Excuse me if I misquote my Emily... it seemed especially appropriate today.
1. Oh, man. Mistborn. I got to the near-end, to the shocking [SPOILER], and it seriously broke my heart. I went through the shock, horror, disbelief, etc just exactly as the viewpoint character there did.
I mean, I'd be lying if I said books never made me cry. I'd also be lying if I said this book was flawless. But the ability to make me grieve here was unparalleled.
And I'm not done yet!
2. The announcement of the King's Musketeers at RPI fills me with glee. Also apprehension, as I realize I would like to make, in the coming months:
- a prototype of my bustlepants for Skies of Eladria at Dice Bubble (in two weeks)
- Victorian reception/dinner wear for HMS Eden at Intercon (in a month and a half)
- 1720s upper/middle class women's wear for Port Hidalgo
- probably something 17th century for King's Musketeers.
... and probably stuff for Festival, although I won't know until the schedule goes up, at the soonest.
Who knows if I'll do this all? I'm excited about this stuff right now, but being realistic, I need to make writing priority #1, and this is not writing. On the other hand, I've actually been enjoying costuming again, so maybe I should ride that wave for a while.
Also, in Venezia news, I finished almost all (but not quite) the machine sewing last night on the bodice and sleeves. And yeah... I think I might need to remake the dress out of the dark green upholstery fabric. I just don't like the green linen-look fabric when made into a bodice.
3.
DYAC isn't new or anything, but it always makes me laugh.
4. Awesome conversations with
acousticshadow2 this morning regarding Mistborn, GRRM, religion, sex in fantasy novels, and the color pink. And peas. Naturally.
5. I'm actually kind of excited about my review at work tomorrow... weird, huh?
