Tuesday verbosity

I'm getting more long-winded each time I do this! And they seem to be drifting away from their original purpose (gratitude/positivity/documenting things I genuinely like) and more towards "what I did recently." Ah, well. I'll re-examine them... later.

1. Went back to Jo-Ann's and bought two yards of the green brocade(ish) fabric for the sleeves of my Renaissance gown. I still worry the bodice/skirts are going to be too plain, but we'll see. The good news is, the fabric was at 50% off, so it was only $8.50/yard after all -- much more reasonable. I guess if I change my mind I can go back and get enough to finish the dress.

I opted not to buy any of the dark green silk dupioni, even though they had four yards of it at the Natick Jo-Ann's; it turned out to be $20/yard and it was not on sale.

Then I went home and cut out aaaalll the pieces, while watching DVDs I'd seen a million times. I <3 <3 <3 having a sewing room TV. It makes me so much more productive.

Anyway. I took pictures along the way, so eventually I can document the crummy way I sew. Although I guess maybe some of you would be more interested in the fitting process?

2. Spent entirely too much time yesterday reading this "Tell Me Your Glitch in the Matrix" creepypasta thread on Reddit. And then had trouble sleeping >.< The stories that freak me out the most are the doppleganger ones.

My creepiest story is not very creepy after all. When I was very young--six? seven?--I woke up in the middle of the night in terror, with a weight on my chest that I thought was my (black) cat. Then it ran away through the closed door of my room. I remember asking my mom about it, and her telling me the cat had been outdoors that night, too. I'm pretty sure that was just sleep paralysis, though; it has all the classic signs.

Oh, and I thought I saw a Whitley Streiber "grey" alien when I was eleven or twelve or so, but I'm pretty sure I'd been watching too much Unsolved Mysteries at the time. Fuck that show. I couldn't sleep without the covers over my head for a decade of my life thanks to that. Thanks, Robert Stack!

Feel free to share your own creepy stories, if you've got them.

3. Got my character sheet for HMS Eden, tho I haven't read it yet. But I'm playing Mary Shelley!

Also, man. All my Intercon games seem to be ahead of the curve. I got my Colonel T. Rawhide's sheet eons ago, not long after I signed up for the game - I basically filled out my questionnaire and ambug666 was all, "Yep, you sound like Senora Mysteriosa." Triple Blind doesn't have character sheets. I have a sheet for HMS Eden already, and I have a casting hint for Port Hidalgo. I have no excuse for awesome costuming. I guess it helps that, aside from HMS Eden, these are all games that have run many times before.

4. I continue to read/listen to Mistborn. It continues to be awesome, in a "Damnit, I've arrived at work, but I just want to hear more!" way. I am really digging the Vin/Elend romance. Not sure why! I've been more in the mood for romance lately, I guess. But I may have squeed like a fangirl when he gave her his handkerchief.

Also made curious by the increasing... corruption? egomania? of Kelsier. The scene with him orchestrating a duel at the caverns felt... odd, or out of character, but I think that was the intended effect. I think we're meant to see that that kind of power/attention corrupts (or at least changes) people, regardless of how good they are to begin with. I hope that he will be redeemed by the rest of the crew. I do love that in a book this long, you get enough time to really see this kind of growth -- even moreso than in normal fiction.

Oh, and I love the rest of the crew, too, and I love the bits of time Vin gets to spend with each of them learning about allomancy. When I stopped this morning she was learning about pewter with Hamm, and oh, I love Hamm, too, the thug with philosophical maunderings that frustrate everyone else.

5. Matt made dinner last night--as he does most every night--and fixed the upstairs toilet yesterday while I was at work. He may, in fact, be the best husband ever.
