While I wait for the coffee to kick in/coworkers to come online...
- I continue to mend from ankle breakage. It sucks; and worse, I've done this all before, when I massively double-fractured/sprained my right ankle in junior high and had to have surgery and be a cast for six months. This is much more minor, but the mobility issues are just as frustrating. At least I can take the splint off and take showers this time. (Seated, with much help).
I swear my ankle hurts more as it heals than it has in the past week. Occasionally when I change positions I get this terrible burning pain that last for several seconds before going away. Ah well. I'm seeing the orthopedist this afternoon, so maybe he'll have an explanation or tell me if it's something I should worry about.
-
natbudin came over last night and we ate pizza from my favorite local pizza place, Dario's, and watched the Mel Brooks version of Twelve Chairs, a very... Russian story. Also, young Frank Langella looks a lot like Seamus R.
- One of things I've been doing a lot more of in my gimpitude: working on my embroidery. I continue to work on the same piece of cross-stitch I've been working on for decades. It would go faster if I didn't have to change threads every four stitches, but it's one of those over-detailed commercial cross-stitch images. I recall that even when I was a young teen and selecting a picture from this book to work on, I thought most of them were lame even then, and picked this one because it seemed the least lame.
- I got my casting hint for Once Upon a Time in Tombstone, the weekend-long, Western-themed Brit LARP taking place in October. I am playing Sierra Jones, the first female U.S. Marshal, who takes inspiration from a 1954 flick called The Cattle Queen of Montana, with Barbara Stanwyck and Ronald Reagan. I... guess I'll have to acquire that? Though that's what torrents are for, I suppose.
I am excited that my costuming can be not traditionally feminine, however. I think I'll probably pair something like my Gibson Girl blouse with more pants, vest, and maybe a range coat. Or maybe I'll make something like this
Wyoming Ranch Skirt.
I don't know if it will be worth having something more formal and traditionally feminine for fancy in-game events... but we do only have like 90 days to costume, so I probably shouldn't get too ambitious.
- I continue to play Morrowind, having gotten over its differences from Oblivion, and am now thoroughly enjoying it. I could write a whole post about the differences, good and bad, between the two games, but this entry is not the place.
- Matt bought the iPad version of the board game Ascension, another deck-building game, so I've been playing a lot of that, too.
- Aaand, if I could ever get possession of the iPad for longer periods of time, I would finish reading The Time Machine, which I started reading when it was my only entertainment back at the retreat center when I broke my ankle.
