Passover plans

Since the move from Chicago, one of the things I miss most is hosting the big orphan Thanksgiving and Christmas parties. It's been wonderful being adopted by such established social group here, but I miss the roles that I used to play.

So I figured I'd pick another big feasting holiday to host for, and what better than my absolute favorite holiday of Passover? It's full of feasting and drinking and interesting ritual, and comes with a built-in cheat sheet so non-Jews can play along easily.

I do not keep a strictly kosher Passover - there will be decent wine (or non-wine, for those who don't drink) and no frantic removal of all leavening from the house. The meal itself will be kosher for Passover though, so if you'd like to prepare or purchase a dish please contact me for recipes or guidelines.

Passover this year is from sundown on Tuesday, March 30 through sundown on Moonday, April 5. I'm thinking I'll do one night, though I might break it into two nights if there's either a lot of interest or definitely two nights that only work for some people. I;m perfectly open to doing this on a weekend night so more people can attend, as dinner will begin as close to sundown as I can manage it - ie, probably about 5:30p.

Invitations are strictly on the basis of interest, so if you're interested in coming please say so here. If you are Jewish, I can promise you a night that will give you warm fuzzy remembrances of childhood; if you're not, I promise an interesting evening of good food, laughter, and the weirdest bit of dinner theater you've likely seen.

There is no need to read or speak Hebrew in order to participate, and you will have a full script in your hands to follow along. Extra bonus points if you know how to read music - I don't, so the singing is likely to be more than a bit off-key, but it will be fun. :)

social whirl, passover
