When I came to Florida, I expected it to be warm and sunny. But I've been pleasantly surprised this week by the smells I've encountered. I don't know how I thought it would smell... tropical I suppose. Salty sea air and tourists (which is odd since Orlando is nowhere near the ocean).
Yesterday was a near-perfect day weatherwise. Low 70s, very little wind, a few wispy clouds. As we drove around some residential areas, and even around our resort, I could smell fresh-mown grass, people grilling hamburgers, sprinklers watering the lawns. I could hear lawn mowers (the sound of the first lawn mower of spring always puts a big smile on my face), and robins singing in the trees (because this is where they go in the winter, don't you know).
Today it's hotter and I can smell that hot muggy air just before the thunderstorm that's going to roll through this evening.
The kids did their schoolwork today in shorts and t-shirts with the windows open and the sound of our pool's volcano waterfall in the background.
Not only did I escape winter, but I got an extra summer in the bargain.
