This was my write up from yesterday's ride that I posted on the forum that I am on....
Well what a day - stupid bloody wind!
First off I have to thank TwoWheels, Percrime, Ian (Percrime's friend), Mhayli and Oz for helping me to get back from Frankston to St Kilda! Great bunch of guys and was extremely thankful for being able to sit on their wheels and for them waiting for me at points - I was looked after and I greatly appreciate it :D
Had a great turn out of over 10 people and cruised down to Frankston mostly all together - well until Mhayli decided at Rickets Point that a mountain bike wasn't going to pass him and he took off! I don't really blame him for that either, he did well to keep the speed around the 30km mark for the trip to there.
I sat behind Dave and Ian (Percrim and his friend) for most of the trip down, but dropped off a bit btn Black Rock and Mordi due to the inclines which I suck at.
Stopped at Mordi for a little bit and then onto Frankston where they tried to convince me to ride up Olivers Hill but I declined their offer for torture.. this time anyway. I just didn't know how I would go doing an 80+ km ride, especially with the headwind on the return.
After a break at Frankston, I went to take off, right foot clipped in and a car came up the road - the thought process was 'do I stop or do I go what do I do?' then ARGH falling to the wrong foot and down I went onto killinit's rear wheel! D'oh! Thankfully no real damage to my bike (seat is damaged but not the frame) and the right levers have moved slightly. No blood spilled from me which was nice, just a few minor scratches and a bruised pride! Since getting home I have noticed I have a bit of a lump on the inside of my left knee and it looks like I may get quite a nice bruise. For my first clipped in fall it wasn't too bad and the whole group didn't see it either :D hehe
The ride back to Mordi was just plain awful! If it wasn't for Mhayli helping me catch up to the group and then me just not being able to stay with them and then TwoWheels slowing down and keeping me company and letting me sit behind him down Station St I reckon I would have taken forever and been in a world more of pain than I was - He even stopped after I caught a set of lights - very very nice of him :D
Made it to Mordi where we had another break and got free lollies from some bike frame company Wooo! I think these were very appreciated by most of us! I had thankfully packed quite a few anyway in my Tri bag which I had been munching on, but was good to have some reserves.
The trip from Mordi to Black Rock wasn't easy with the inclines, speed dropped to about 14-15km/h and was EXTREMELY thankful to not be on a Hybrid! Caught up to Heather around Rickets Point after she was dropped of the main bunch and then sat behind Oz and Heather until Black Rock where we had a small break to stretch a little bit. As I was lying on the ground stretching my back I saw Jason (work colleague) go flying past - he later told me that he saw my bike but not me which was kinda funny.
The stretch to St Kilda saw Ian and Percrime leading us (Paul_f, Oz, Heather and myself) at a nice steady pace of around 20km/h or so and we tried to keep as close to each other as possible to make it easier for us weaker riders and it worked! We all got back in one piece, sore but not dead and I REALLY enjoyed the hot choc and cheese on toast - yummy!
Thanks for the huge turn out folks! I reckonn if I had been on my own I would have turned around at mordi.
Stats time:
Dist: 82.31km
Time: 3hrs 25mins
Avg: 24.0km/h (was up at 27.7km when we reached Frankston)
Mx: 45.7km/h
Cal:1440.6 - I would have used a lot more than that in these conditions, but this is only on my bike computer.
I think I need a nana nap before I go out tonight... not sure how big my night is going to be anymore hehe but I am extremely proud of my efforts today - again the longest ride for me and considering the conditions I am proud of my effforts! I am also proud of Heather - her longest ride too - well done!
