Last Friday, John walked away from a head-on collision with only a bruised chest and burn mark from the airbag on his arm. Thank God the 17 yo who crossed over the line and barreled into him is fine, too. Both cars are totaled and it's amazing- a miracle- neither had serious injuries.
Two days later, a 36 yo woman in our town lost her life in a head-on near our house.
We feel very fortunate. Very.
Today, we shopped for mini vans. The last time we bought one, we picked it out based on its safety rating and airbags. The best decision and money we ever spent.
While speaking to a sales rep today and telling him about John's accident, he remarked that Friday "must have been the worst day of our summer."
"Nope," I said. "It was the best. He's alive."
It could have been a very, very different outcome.
So, today's Thankful Thursday has a very different meaning for me. Thankful that John is alive and well, so thankful he was able to call me to tell what had happened instead of the hospital, and thankful that we're able to get a new van with airbags/curtain airbags all around.
Oh, as a side note, he was on his way home from Barnes & Noble when it happened...
