Cedar Creek School Visit

I loved my time at this school in Lanoka Harbor, NJ last week. The kids were great and asked such terrific questions! Getting to see the school library is a thrill for me. As a former librarian, I'm always curious to see it and hear about the program. The librarian, Becky D'Aleo, obviously takes pride in her room. *The library oozed of energy, excitement, and buzzed with activity. Look what she painted on the walls:

I also snapped these two pics painted by the G&T Kids:

Becky is a jack of all trades. Librarian, painter, the Grant Queen. She won several grants. This fabo furniture is a result of a grant:

Aren't they adorable? I love how the seats look like books. The character names are permanent. Very cool!

And look at these clever playing cards, 52 Reasons to Read, she designed (through a grant) to promote literacy:

She's a whiz! Thanks for a great school visit, Becky! You, and the entire Cedar Creek Community, Rock!

*If you live in NJ, you've been hearing about the insane and drastic cuts imposed on our schools last week. Many districts are losing dozens of teachers. My own town predicts between 80-100 TEACHING positions will be lost. I get sick thinking about this and wondering which programs will be cut. Any program is a loss but, of course, the library is near and dear to me. Libraries, such as Becky's, are the hub of the school. To lose even one library or librarian would be devastating.
