Last week I visited the kids at Renaissance One in Paterson. I met the media specialist, Dawn Zeig, in November at the NJ School Librarian Conference. Dawn certainly has her finger on the pulse of children's lit! Is there anything she doesn't know? She's young, vivacious, and I can only imagine how much her students must love her! Was I surprised to learn she was nominated and selected for ALA's Emerging Leaders Program? Nope. Not one little bit.
The conference was three days long and I wansn't sure if I'd go on the third day. I finally decided to go and am SO GLAD I did. That's when I met Dawn. We enjoyed gabbing about books. I found out that she was responsible for getting one of my friend's books on the Garden State Award Ballot. (Shhh, I don't think my friend knows yet! Yippee!)
I really enjoyed meeting her students and was surprised to get a nice pile of thank you cards in my mailbox today! They were from third graders in Ms. Ugliarolo's class. Third graders rock!
Thanks for a great visit! Looking forward to visiting again some time!
