I had the exact same anxieties! But like their products, their store layout is well designed. The first time I went, was on a Tuesday afternoon around 2pm, so I could have the place to myself. They really do just kind of steer you around, like, it reminds me of how at amusement parks you have to walk through the gift shop when leaving the ride. There are quicker ways than their "plotted path" to get from one department to another - like, sneaky little hidden doors that you can barely see. But, I went on Saturday morning aroun 11am and even though it was mobbed, the "traffic" flows really, really smoothly and it didn't stress me out at all.
We didn't scare you, did we? It's nothing to be afraid of, you should be excited! They have it all set up so you walk and are led through all the areas, just follow the planned route like a good little rat in a maze and you'll see all the stuff. I don't know if they are all set up the same, but my local starts you off upstairs and guides you through all the showrooms, then you get to the cafe, then you go downstairs to the actual shopping area.
As someone who had to travel over 100 miles for my one visit, I disgree with voguevixen. If you see something great-and make sure it IS great!-grab it. Because I doubt I would have gone back upstairs for the cutting board even though it was a great deal and was exactly what S. had been threatening for years to build for me. My only regret is that it was so heavy.
And the displays near the checkouts? Great stuff! Cheap batteries and cheap but good scissors I picked up. Still have the scissors scattered through the house, and that was probably at least 4 years ago.
I made my sister who LIKES to shop (???) come with me, and even she needed the break in the middle.
