OK, so the scenario is this. You are a knight. You have gone on crusade to atone for a death you feel responsible for. you fell for your best friend's wife (who is crazy, but a really good lay) and you feel that he committed suicide after having caught the two of you in the sack. You have been on crusade for three years, seen a lot of stuff you wish you hadn't but have found the woman of your dreams. (The wife, back in France, got a letter from someone saying they saw you killed in battle and has had you declared dead so she can marry schtupp someone else who has better connections) You have gained a servant on the way, very, very devoted. Who not only risks his life for you, when the woman you love falls ill with typhoid, he cuts his own meager rations in half and lets his own blood to save her (no, this is not a vampiric question.) On the servant's deathbed, he reveals he was the friend whose death you had gone on crusade to atone for. He did try to kill himself, but because the wife "stole" you from him. He's been in love with you the whole time. All he wants, before he dies is a kiss. Do you do it? and is he a freak? Or do you consider that maybe he has loved you more than anyone ever has and ever will?
yeah, it's a bit of a mindfuck, but a scenario from a book I just finished reading. let me know what you think and I will tell you the name of the book.
