Undead Blog?
Alright, enough of the dead blog. I'm here in Chicago, and I'm finally starting to feel settled. So I've decided its time to try and pick up blogging again! So what's new? Well let's see ...
Like I said, I'm finally starting to feel settled. The first weeks of being here were an exhausting cluttered mess of moving what seemed like zillions of boxes and bags up and down stairs, then unpacking them and finding a place for each item. Room by room KP and I slowly started to get things put together. There's still little things here and there that need to be done, but for the most part our apartment is livable, and fabulous. Last Sunday we spent the day painting our bathroom a beautiful new light blue color, and its so nice to have a grown up looking bathroom! It kind of felt like a settling point -- like hey, I live here now!
My room is almost put together as well. One of the first things I did when I got here (while I still had the rental truck to move it) was buy a large piece of wood, some pretty fabric, and batting to make a headboard. It was a fairly quick DIY project, and I'm so glad I did it. it really helps pull my room together and makes it feel like more of an adult bedroom and less of a college dorm. Hooray!
Zoey's fitting in nicely. She hates the wood floors (as she's constantly desperately trying to find footing and not crash into walls as she scuffles after toys), but is getting used to them. Other than that she has tons of space to lounge around, and a little designated spot in each room to lay and chew toys while we're in there.
Since being here I've applied to what seems like a ZILLION jobs, both graphic design and restaurant related. I finally managed to snag a nice hosting position at Nick's Fishmarket in the loop. I like it a lot, and its finally allowed me to meet a few people and hopefully start some friendships. Everyone is SUPER nice, which has been great.
As for the design front, I'm still working on that. I've been on a few interviews, but no luck yet!
Without a job for so long, I've had TONS of free time. I found that making lists really helped me stay productive, but when it was time to relax I ended up reading a LOT. So far since being here I've managed to put away 14 books. Which is probably more than I've read in the last 5 years combined. Sweet! I'm really enjoying reading again!
Its been really hard to not spend while being here. Chicago is expensive! But money is tight, and I've been doing a really good job these past few weeks not spending anything more than necessary. I so badly want to go into all the stores near my work bus stop (H&M, Forever 21, Charlotte Russe), and sometimes if I'm early I'll go in and browse, but that's it! No uneccessary buys! It'll be good to hopefully get back on my feet soon so it's not such a worry.
I believe that's it for now. I'm going to try my best to keep this up! I'm thinking short little entries will be best, so we'll see! I've been taking a handful of pictures since being here, and I plan on posting them in an "Autumn in Chicago" album on facebook soon, so look for those as well!
