My mom, Drew, and I took Cocoa to the puppy park tonight, and it was awesome. For the first time he actually played with two other dogs, running around, chasing each other, and having a blast. Usually he just does the meet-n-greet sniff thing, says "Hey, howya doin" and moves on.
He's content just prancing along-side us as we walk around the path, so if a dog or person tries to intereact for more than a few seconds he'll usually either play along for a minute before giving up, or ends up getting annoyed -- especially if its a puppy jumping all over him. (He's an old man, its his prerogative to be grumpy with young pups if he wants too!). But tonight he loved playing with a 3-month-old Basset Hound and a young Mini Beagle puppy. It was so great, I was sad when we all had to leave.
It gave me hope for when I bring him over to play with my new puppy after I get it this summer, that he won't just sit there giving me the deathstare as it prances around him trying to play, thinking, "How dare you force me to endure this silly little ball of energy for another second!" Perhaps they will get along so splendidly, play games in the yard all day, and Cocoa will finally start to look like a real dachshund! ... Wishful thinking, I know :-p
Unfortunatelly that's all I can say for now, because its time to start counting sheep ... or perhaps I'll try goats tonight. :-p
