This came to me via e-mail from a highly trusted source. I'm posting it here, because I've watched someone go through breast cancer treatments and have seen how painful and frightening the process can be, even with excellent, supportive care.
Insurance companies are currently pushing to make mastectomies outpatient proceedures. Lifetime Television channel is running a petition drive in support of the Breast Cancer Patients Protection Bill, which would mandate a two-day post op stay for patients undergoing mastectomies. Information and link under the cut.
There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.
Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on. To sign the petition, click the link below.

Peace.
(I apologize for the double cut. I have no clue why LJ did that. Maybe it just bears repeating!)
