The Goat
I love end of the year traditions and this time I have a short video I made of The Goat dance tradition. It's a very old Romanian tradition and I would guess it's pre-Christian as origin. The "action" with the two goat's dance and the chanting happens behind my block. Normally it's a more complex story, about the goat that is despised as a poor man's farm animal, then she dies, gets mourned and then she returns to life. This is a story about fertility and resiliance and magic. The dance and chanting are supposed to bring prosperity in the new year and many new healthy baby animals in the farm. Now The Goat got together with Santa and roams and dances around the blocks of flats and people throw money from their windows.
