addiction

I have to confess my new addiction: the Ancient Aliens series on History. Ever since I've discovered that the whole series is available on youtube, it's become my favorite thing to watch and my sweet lullaby. (I watch it before going to bed and it's making me so sleepy, it's like a spell.) Instead of watching movies or even serious documentaries, I ( Read more... )

I've caught glimpses of the show and my boyfriend and I are dying to watch it! I visited Mayan ruins and heard all kinda of ancient alien theories. Great stories and very fascinating indeed! I haven't watched it though to decide if I believe it or not though :)

I can only recommend the show. It's beautifully done, with footage of amazing places and interesting information on ancient history and art and religion. Even if their speculations are exaggerated, they do make you wonder, they put your mind and imagination to work. It's a stimulating show!

It's awesome that you visited Mayan ruins. Where did you go?

I love ancient history, art and religion, so I'm looking forward to watching it. I also love creative theories about stuff like that. I'm big into ghost stories, alien stories, the paranormal... It makes life fun, I think.

I've visited Tulum. I wanted to see more, but I was with my ex who couldn't be bothered to see more. I loved Tulum though, so beautiful and interesting. I saw buildings with space ships drawn onto them back in the Mayan times. Really makes you wonder!

Awesome! It must have been an amazing experience being there, stepping on the same stones as the Mayan did so many centuries ago!

Cool recommendation, thanks! I love ancient history and all sorts of artifacts -- having been an archaeologist, I suppose I have to!!! :-)

I'm intrigued by the Ovidius hair removal, which seems to be called 'sugaring' nowadays (http://www.ehow.com/way_5761126_homemade-hair-removal-cream.html ).

At any rate, I'll have to check out that show!!!

Oh, I didn't know that a variation of his recipe is used today! His was a bit more elaborate, if I remember well. He recommends cosmetics and all kinds of things, just like we read today in popular magazines, only in verses.

So cool to be an archeologist! Must be very exciting. I am curious if you have ever heard of the Tartaria tablets, just to see if it's a recognized historical fact or more of a hype thing right now.

That's one of my fav shows too, on History. Those theories.... according to them the humans are not a glimpse more intelligent than an amoeba, the aliens had to come to bring them everything: from the fire and the wheel to how to put salt on the food. Hey, the aliens even discovered America and all the scientist and great artists were also aliens. Only us, commoners, stupid, retarded simple homo sapiens...

I totally agree to you, we might have more advanced tools and can fly to the moon, but in its essence, the human being is just the same as it was when it was wearing leather aprons, sleeping in caves and chasing animals around with a piece of silex.

hahaha - you are right about how they see humans (including themselves, I imagine) as being as intelligent as amoebas! Robby, I blame you for my current addiction. I have caught them a few times on TV and liked them but only after you recommended them I actively went and searched for the show on the net!

Completely agree. The only reason we have the advancements we have now, is that one generation built on the knowledge, progress and inventions of the previous ones. Also we forget that life was much more of a struggle in ancient times. You don't exactly have time to invent the iPod if you're hunting or working in the fields from sunup to sunset just to put food on the table. Many of our inventions are there because we have the luxury of conveniences we have all the people to thank for who came before us. I even think it would take more intelligence to survive in ancient times than now; you had to know things we don't have to know today, and have the capacity to remember it all by rote.

There are situations when certain technologies were forgotten and then reinvented, like the use of concrete. But yes, people did by themselves because there were always individuals that pushed the civilization up! I totally that now we live comfortable lives due to the work of brilliant minds in the past and we don't need to use our minds as much. How many of us know some basic astronomy, for example? IN ancient times they depended on it for agriculture and everybody had to have some knowledge. Now we don't even see the stars from our brightly lit cities...

Oh no, what have you done? Now I'm going to have to check this out and I'll probably get addicted too =(

But also, thank you for writing about this! It sounds fascinating! I suspect I will feel the same way you do, based on the things you listed that you don't believe (and I don't see myself believing either) but any time I can find shows on youtube (in surprisingly decent quality considering it's one video that's over an hour long o_O) the cheapskate documentary lover in me goes *___* + <333 ( ... )

That bird is obviously a toy. Not a model airplane. There were no planes, with or without motors, in ancient Egypt. And I also highly doubt that the pyramids were shooting rays of energy into space. I actually remember watching another show about the wooden "bird" where actual scientists tested it and noticed that it doesn't glide. Especially without an additional part. Even if it did, it would have meant nothing. Kites fly even better and they're not inspired by aliens. One of the biggest problems of the Ancient Aliens series is that they NEVER present the other point of view, which actually happens to be the point of view of real scientists ( ... )
