I've just been through a totally traumatic experience that left me still shaking. You, cat people out there will understand me. (Who doesn't have pets is allowed - and justified - to think I am crazy.) I had the vet over to give my cats their shots. They both knew something bad was to happen and they both hid. First I extracted Lisa from her hiding place and she got her shot with minimum crying. I just held her, kept her paws in my hand so she couldn't scratch and it was all over in seconds. The drama started when Meli saw the vet approaching. She started screaming for her life - something I have never heard before. She was so frightened, she peed all over herself (and me, since I was holding her). Lisa became angry at what was happening to Meli and was ready to jump the vet - something she never did before. The poor man was actually frightened - for some obscure reason Birman cats have this reputation of being mean. I mean there were cases when they attacked... But he is a vet! He should know better. Anyway, we had to lock her in the room while Meli got the shot - Meli screamed like crazy in my arms. Just frightening. I wonder what has happened to this poor kitty that make her so frightened of strangers. Men, particularly. I guess I wasn't used to this - Lisa is calm and easy to control, even if she is much bigger and stronger. And last time Meli had her shot, she didn't act like this. She was afraid and she cried, but nothing like this.
