a semi-good story i guess, but you pry had to be there

argh! why is lunch at 12:15 here? australians seem to do everything else early - why not lunch? needless to say, i'm hungry. but with good reason. last night was rather a transportation misadventure.

so there are 4 other dickinsonians in Emmanuel (my college/residence/dorm). one is inseparable from her boyfriend, so we never see her, but the rest of us get along surprisingly well. they are: amanda who i knew from the garden one semester and through shana, john who was on my freshman floor, and kim who i knew from alternative spring break last year - rather a motley crew, but it just adds to the hilarity. anyway, yesterday it annoyingly rained all day, so we decided to go to the movies. unfortunately we went to see Date Movie, which is probably the worst movie i've ever seen in my whole life. In the words of Kim, "those are two hours of my life i can never get back." the only redeeming factor was that there were a couple groovy soft rock favs in it. so afterward, we descend into the mall around 6:30 and everything is closed except the food court (the one australian that's with us thought this was normal). but the others ate at various fast food chains, which i couldn't bring myself to do. so that was the start of my being deservedly hungry.

then we went out to the bus platforms to catch a bus back. there didn't seem to be any busses going in our direction, so we settled for catching a bus to toowong from where we could catch a connecting bus back to uni. during our wait, we got oddly cold and amanda decided my skirt served a good blanket. our bus finally came and upon taking our seats, john turned pointedly toward me and said, "your job is to look out for toowong." so, after obnoxiously ringing the bus stopping bell a couple times, i exclaim, "hey - that was our stop!" so we're continuing into the depths of the city while john is cursing up a storm (and needless to say, fired me from the job of looking out for the bus stops). we stopped at this large terminal in the city center and figured we could catch a bus to somewhere useful if we could just cross to the other platform, which took us several tries of going up and down stairs and in and out of elevators. we finally made it onto the platform and onto the correct bus although the bus driver was creepy crazy. we realized that we only had tickets for zone 2 and had ended up in zone one, so we had to buy zone one tickets. however, when i tried to hand the driver my money, he recoiled in disgust and pointed to a metal plate on which to deposit my fare, so he wouldn't have to touch me and then yelled at me about something. we plopped down amongst an eerily silent bus full of middle-aged business men. i turned to kim and asked, "was that the driver you had before?" (i had heard tale of a crazy driver they'd had) "no," she said, "but he's just as weird. some people just need to get laid!" (*awkwad, even more heavy silence among the business men).

so we made it to toowong and walked to this other bus stop past a liquor store and a bar to catch the bus back to uni. while waiting we decided a bottle of rum was a great idea, so we walked back to the liquor store and bought some rum and coke. back at the bus stop, we realized we had just missed our bus, and had to wait another half hour, so john and i were sent to subway to get cups where i made the worker's night by pulling the door instead of pushing and then waiting dumbly while he came and opened the door for me. we ended up walking past the bar five times and felt like ultimate cool kids. we finally made it back to uni where we realized we could have purchased all our goods there and not missed the bus, but whatever.

we played king's in my room and i was gone after the first drink and vaguely remember rolling around under my desk, whcih seemed completely logical to me at the time. so then i woke up with that empty feeling you get after drinking and had slept through breakfast after missing dinner and now have to wait until freakin' 12:15 for lunch!!!!!

so, yeah - sorry, this story was probably not very good, but at least i almost typed my way to lunch time!!
