just finished a homestay in the naso-teribe territory - an indigenous group in panama. it was awesome. the people were so nice and welcoming. they spoke their own language but also spoke spanish and lived in stilted houses in the absolute middle of the rainforest without lights, gas, toilets, beds, etc. they cooked all their meals over an open fire and basically grew everything they ate. we took motorized canoes up to the village and traditional balsa rafts back down, which was a raging good time in more ways than one. one day, we swam in a little pool in one of the many mountain streams with a bunch of little kids. the water was so clean and cool and the surrounding green mountains and banana trees and clouds - it was really amazing.

we also went to a banana plantation, which was ridiculously efficient. but i don't know if i can eat bananas anymore when i go back to the states.

in bocas del toro now, an archipelgo in the carribean with blue, clear water, coral reefs, sun, sand, tasty juice! we're starting a mini-course in marine biology tomorrow with someone from the smithsonian where we're staying for the week - it's pretty cush. and we're eating indian food tonight, whcih i'm also really excited about.
