Random Minutae of the day

As of today, we will set a record here in North Texas for the most 100+ degree days in a single year. The previous record was set back in the horrific summer of 1980 (the same year that has the record for consecutive 100+ degree days, which we missed by 2 days this year). It's the middle of September and it's supposed to hit 105 here today. *sigh* We're also supposed to have some strong southwest winds, so we're under all sorts of wildfire warnings. If I actually believed that Rick Perry was really on speaking terms with God, I'd say that God was punishing him for his obnoxious self-righteousness, but I think Perry's Christianity is nothing more than a costume he puts on to fool gullible people, so I don't really believe God is punishing us at all.

Speaking of politics (but not really), I'm pretty amused at the Facebook group I joined for my old hometown. I can't remember if I told you about the asshole who tried to be a total dick to me on the group - and got quickly smacked down by the moderators of the group - but over the weekend there were people in the group posting stuff about 9/11, and the dick posted something that I actually agreed with regarding the loss of freedom we in the U.S. have had to deal with because of the knee-jerk reactions by the government. I didn't respond, even though I agreed with him, because he was such an ass to me previously, and this morning I saw that the mods had totally deleted his comment.

Now, these mods have been pretty quick to censor anything they don't like, so I wasn't really all that surprised to see the comment had disappeared, but I have to confess that I've lost a lot of respect for a couple of them simply because they justify their deletions by saying that the comment or post had nothing to do with the topic of the group, yet they'll leave other comments and posts that have nothing to do with the topic of the group as long as it's something they agree with. Hypocrisy? In my Facebook? Who would have thought? (That's rhetorical and sarcastic, by the way.)

In other news, I have people asking when they're going to be able to download the shop hop book, so I signed up with Smashwords. Once I did, though, I realized that I've got to make a cover for the book. I am...not artistic. At all. So I suspect this cover is not going to be all that impressive. I do, however, at least have an idea of what I want to do. There's a huge house here that looks sort of similar to one of the houses in the book, so I'm thinking of asking them if I can drape a red, white and blue quilt over the railing of their porch and take a picture of the whole thing, then throw a Photoshop filter over the top of it to make it look like it was drawn or painted instead of a photograph. I think that will probably work, but we'll see. It may end up looking hideous.

There was something else I wanted to post about, and now I can't remember what it was. I'm sure I'll remember as soon as I hit post, though, LOL.
