So. Last week I learned (/was reminded?) that the tropics hate me. Next time I decide I want to go on a vacation anywhere NEAR a tropical region, remind me to bring only fully covering clothing and to avoid anything even remotely involving the sun.

And a hat with a huge brim.

(What? No, I didn't manage to burn 2/3rds of my body and give myself heat exhaustion... I'm certainly not STILL nursing lips that are swollen from sunburn.)

The Dominican was very nice, though, despite it's attempts to kill me. Resort food wasn't fantastic but it was decent. Boat trip was a bad plan as it lead to both motion sickness and the worst of my sunburns. Snorkelling was cool, though I hated the loss of sense of control over my breathing it gave me. (Same reason I hate swimming with my face in the water, even though BOTH situations realistically require greater control over your breathing.) Horseback riding was awesome, though that's also tainted by my fear of letting go of control. My favourite parts of these sorts of tours is always, always getting to see as much of the country as possible and meeting locals and seeing what life is really like, not just the expensive touristy places. Sadly, this trip didn't have a lot of that.

Also, the song "Incense and Peppermints" has been stuck in my head for two whole days now. Ridiculous.
