Went to see the Premiere in Nagoya last night, then walked home after. It took me an hour in lovely weather. It was my first time in Toyota's new Theatre in the new building across from the station - lovely leathery seats and the space was larger than I expected. Very comfy! It was practically empty though, because ST isn't big here for some unkown reason, so the lack of patrons didn't help a good fannish atmosphere, although I noted a few westerners there. Friday night tends to be company workers night out, so maybe that contributed.
Loved it! Loved the characters - they were all fabulous! The story was well fitted together. Great CGI! Wonderful to see Spock Prime and Captain Pike, who I loved for how fatherly they both were. Surprised Pike survived it all though - from the story pov that is, but very understandable from the franchise pov. I loved the tension and conflict between Spock and Kirk. It made the story all the more interesting, especially with the Uhura side-dish 'not yet really menage a trois - I can see them developing that in future films.
The soundtrack absolutely boomed. I haven't been in such loud noise in ages, so it was really on the edge of uncomfortable for me. I didn't notice the theme music until the end ... was it in there in earlier parts? I was surprised they didn't pull back on the cacophony for the first appearance of the Enterprise though - I would have liked the music for that to be a bit more graceful, elegant and listenable, if that makes sense. I was distracted by the loudness and almost didn't realise it WAS The Enterprise. I just didn't feel it was a MOMENT.
