*headdesk*
Went to town with the family and sis today. It started out well and sensible - we went out, picked up the sister at her house and headed on to Asian Buffet for our traditional (if a day early in this instance) brunch. So far so good, right? Then we go to the mall to pick up (and out) some new lenses and frames for mom's glasses. Okay, that's necessary, again no problem. We hit JCPenny while we wait (or however they spell it). I got some house sock slipper type things I can wear to bed, something for the ex-roomie's mom (to go in with the Christmas package I still need to get in the mail), and a Christmas coffee mug that was on super sale (I think it was around $3).
We're still doing well.
Go back, get the glasses, and split up (Mom and I to go to the food court for different reasons, personally I just needed something to drink because my throat was beginning to hurt from drying out). Okay, get a drink and head back in the direction Dad, Stacey and Keira were headed - and this is where we start getting into dangerous waters...the bookstore. Not just a bookstore, but one to which I had 25% off coupons for any item.
The proximity alarms should have been blaring loudly.
Instead it was Dad standing outside Bath and Body works (at least I think that's the name of it) with Keira in her stroller while Stacey was inside stocking up on some of her smell good stuffs. Blind to the potential danger, I told him I'd meet them down there and walked on.
*looks over at, you guessed it, another new book sitting on her desk*
I can't even use the excuse of, 'but this one is about writing and should be somewhat educational on some level!' Nope, this one is for pure pleasure. The only thing I can say, fortunately, is that it isn't another manga, although I kind of wish it was. Unfortunately there aren't any new volumes out for the ones I follow almost religiously (namely Saiyuki - dr00l), so not much danger of that until the next volume of Reload becomes available. Nope, this one actually has woooooooords.
The neat thing about it, though, is that it's actually a translation of a Russian bestseller (the first of a trilogy) and has spawned a movie (two of them actually). It's an urban fantasy/fantasy thriller that so far seems really good...I'm just up to chapter three or so.
It's Night Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko.
*sighs and picks it up*
I've got too many of these...had already started another one (the latest in a series that I really enjoy) and have a third from the sister that I need to read called, Island of the Sequined Love Nun. And really, how can any book possibly go wrong when it includes not only cargo cults, cannibals, mad scientists and ninjas but also talking fruit bats?
I mean, srsly...
books,
