Don't Forget!

 D.C. Area:

They told us our school could be next. They told us we could be targets because we were right of route 95.

I was in American Government. We were talking about the effect of terrorism on the US. Another teacher rushed in and told us to turn on the t.v. He said we were being attacked. We turned on the tv just in time to see the first tower burning. Then, as we watched in shocked horror -- the teacher didn't know what to say, and he rarely stopped talking -- the second plane hit, just as a child behind the reporter said "daddy, they're doing it on purpose."

I found my brother. Dad was flying that morning. Was it his plane? No, he was okay, on the ground in St. Louis. thank god.

So many other people's parents were unaccounted for. There were a few who were traveling to NYC and the trade centers for business. What a horrible week to have a business trip.

We watched the replays, as the planes hit over and over, and a couple hours later, you could hear the screams echoing down the hallways as the towers collapsed one, then the other. the teachers wouldn't turn the tv.s off. We heard about the other plane, and the Pentagon (so close to home). We watched the tv.s all day, on repeat. People cried and hugged. My friend at I went to guidance, her father was missing. We hid in the band's practice room and tried to keep ourselves from freaking out. If the world was going to end because of this...we were going out without knowing.

We stayed there until Geometry. We had normal class, They talked about not letting us go home - what if there were more attacks? We went home, and we talked to our families, and we cried. We mourned and we vowed to remember. Nothing has changed.

I still swear that we will never forget. I vowed never to forget.
