Originally I saw this list as the third link to "AU: Harry doesn't grow up with the Dursleys" and "Mentorship and adoption". But very few stories on this list actually have to do with adoption or mentorship. So now I renamed the list. And I'm taking every story where Harry's pre-Hogwarts life takes place at the Dursleys (though there can be changes ( Read more... )

Okay to clarify: this is fics that have an AU from PS onwards - regardless of whether he lives with the Dursleys afterwards etc?

Also, would it include things like my own An Unwilling Ownership where Harry's story is an AU from PS but Snape's history is different (and done through flashbacks)?

Another q would be, do you accept stories archived in yahoo groups, cos if so I can rec you one that would fit your 'Harry doesn't grow up with the Dursleys' list.

Actually, the other thing you should clarify is, does that list apply to fics where he's raised by someone else, but it doesn't actually show much of his childhood but skips ahead to Hogwarts? (I.e. the one I mentioned before has him taken to live with Sirius as a child in the prologue, but ch11 is set just before he goes to school.)

q1: Harry is with the Dursleys till Hogwarts (or just before Hogwarts) but afterwards the story isn't canon. Can be Harry with the Dursleys or with anybody else ( ... )

Harry is more independent, clever, and confident than canon!Harry, and the author has done an excellent job of creating believable characters and well thought-out plots. Harry never intends to return to the Dursleys after first year, and arranges alternate accommodations for himself without Dumbledore's knowledge or approval.

Thanks. - As I got mostly notifications for my newest list today, fpreg, I nearly added it to the wrong list. DOH!

Btw, does it also fit the manip!D-list or is it merely independent Harry without any manipulations by Dumbledore?

Harry does distrust DD to a certain extent, and we see foreshadowing of Dumbledore's manipulative behavior, especially in HP & the Slippery Secret, but at the moment Harry has very little interaction with Dumbledore. It simply never occurs to Harry that he should seek out Dumbledore's (or any other adult's) help concerning his home-life, or that Dumbledore has any authority over his life. However, Harry is afraid that if the Wizarding World finds out that he has run away from the Dursleys they will force him to go back, so he does his best to keep any adults from finding out.

Yeah, I was surprised about some of them. Avatar I know she just uploaded because it's nominated at the Sorting Hat, though.

I'm not updating any lists at the moment - as you said, SH is taking up a lot of time. But I'll bookmark this post to come back to later, so thanks for the help :) And yes, I've got Reign of Power, but the other one's new to me.

This one doesn't seem to fit your other lists (Harry doesn't get adopted or mentors him that I can see and he grew up with the Dursleys). The difference in this story is that Dudley is also a Wizard which causes a lot of problems on the Homefront with Petunia but not Vernon. It's pretty good, has some grammar problems but none that you'd notice without really, really looking for them.
The story's called Magical Relations and it's by evansentranced. The author's summary is: AU First Year and on: Harry's relatives were shocked when the Hogwarts letters came. Not because Harry got into Hogwarts. They had expected that. But Dudley, on the other hand....That had been a surprise.
It has eighteen pretty long chapters...oh and Harry's also a Slytherin, if that matters...
