♡ ages of ruin 2/2. (jin/takaya? + chidori)retrauxJuly 12 2011, 03:24:54 UTC
Chidori turns away from him again after a moment of what could be hesitation. He considers the shape of her shadow in the quiet glow of the streetlights, again and again, and almost sees a fall of feathers in the frills of her dress. ('We are but lambs to the slaughter. What have we lost, Jin? What do we have left and what, what have we lost...')
"Jin," she says: very quietly, very honestly, as though they are only just finally coming to meet as people, after everything. "What do you think of Takaya?"
Jin frowns down at her shadow where he could almost imagine burning it to pieces, could nearly dream of her re-birthing and re-birthing from the ashes, all shivering and pale, all painfully alive. He is very suddenly disturbed by the thought but somehow cannot let go of it. "Takaya? I..."
('We have nothing; we have nothing left and so nothing to be lost.')
"I'm following him," he says, closing his eyes, without thinking. Chidori says nothing. "Whatever you do-I'm going to follow Takaya."
He opens his eyes when he hears the sound of her footsteps again, so crisp and clear. They return home in silence, all three or four steps apart as though they are trying to distance themselves as much as they can for still being together.
Jin can't sleep, that night or maybe morning. He sits at the window, hunched into himself and entirely awake, watching the streetlights shine; squinting until they could almost be stars. ('Here or anywhere: we have always had nothing.')

oh
excuse me, I'll just be sitting here re-reading this for about forever.
Chidori is my ♥ favorite ♥ so of course I don't mind you writing about her!! And it's so perfect the way you did, the way she's so very far from Jin even though they're together, the way she's different. The subtle bird references - the image of her as a phoenix, if I'm reading that right? So beautiful. *w*
And your Jin is so perfect, your Takaya so perfectly wise and utterly insane. You have the best Strega. :D
