The clock is winding down here in Japan
Much has happened.
The kiln turned out to be rather disastrous.
Everything looked absolutely stunning, but the wadding (clay bits to prop up the pottery so it wouldnt stick to the shelves) ended up having a faulty ingredient in it that caused the wadding to flux into glaze and glue EVERYTHING to the shelves. Consequently about 30% of the work in the kiln had to be shattered to get it off of shelves. The rest that was salvaged all have giant gobs of unwanted wadding glued onto the work. A lot of grinding will be necessary.
Noteworthy:
Yesterday the group took a trip to Asuka to go to a sex festival! One of the very very old traditional japanese festivals that hasnt been modernized. I didnt see any of the simulated sex on stage at the temple, but I did get to watch a few guys dressed as demons stalk around and spank people with 3' long bamboo canes. I'll post some minor video footage from my camera later.
We're back in Osaka at the hotel today before flying out of Japan tomorrow.
It was saddening to eat our last dinner in Kashihara last night -- We went to a newly discovered sake bar right next to the apartments where they had some of the best japanese food I've eaten. Especially their kimchi nabe.
There's alot I havent updated about in the last few weeks, but I'll try to post pictures once Im back in the states.
Tomorrow is going to be a loooong travel day. From the point we leave to go to the airport to the point I get to providence will probably be about 20 solid hours of travelling.
I cannot wait to see my boy!!!! (and of course everyone else back home too)
