Made a new userpic, since the new It movie is in people's minds right now. Apparently "claurophobia" is the fear of clowns. I don't really have it, unless it's an intentionally spooky clown, like ol' Pennywise there, or a regular clown standing alone in a dark forest or something (like all those tricksters in the media this past Hallowe'en season). I remember watching Bozo the clown's show on TV when I was a wee lad and it was ok. I did have a painting/print of three clowns, as a child, hanging above my bed, and those memories are a bit on the negative side, but nothing to cause claurophobia. I remember in 4th grade my friends talked about the It mini-series and how good it was. Luckily my mom didn't let me watch it at that young age, or I probably would have claurophobia like (apparently) everyone else! To this day it remains one of my favorite Stephen King adaptations and I'm pretty psyched about the new film. Here's the trailer in case you haven't seen it (the classic scene my userpic is taken from is even in it):

I want every single Stephen King film adaptation ever made. 100%. Even the shitty ones, like Lawnmower Man and The Mangler. I don't care about sequels (Children of the Corn 2 through.. whatever) or remakes (Carrie 2013). Although it would be neat to have the SciFi Channel mini-series of The Shining, even though it pales in comparison to Stanley Kubrick's original, even though the SciFi Channel (they were still called that then, right?) adaptation was more accurate to the book. My Stephen King video collection is fairly substantial.. this is all the official movie stuff I have concerning Stephen King:
- Storm of the Century (mini-series)
- The Stand (mini-series)
- It (mini-series)
- Tommyknockers (mini-series)
- Rose Red (mini-series)
- Nightmares and Dreamscapes (mini-series)
- Salem's Lot (TV movie)
- Creepshow (VHS)
- Creepshow 2
- Riding the Bullet
- Silver Bullet
- The Dead Zone
- Graveyard Shift
- Sleepwalkers
- Children of the Corn
- Stand by Me
- Misery
- The Dark Half
- Carrie (original)
- Needful Things
- Cell (blu-ray)
- You Can't Kill Stephen King (not based on an actual work of his; from independent filmmakers)
A friend at work is actually doing the same thing! He's way, way into horror, even more than I am. He's even getting all the shitty sequels to King's films, like the aforementioned Children of the Corn and Lawnmower Man, even if they're not based on his writing in any way. I can't go that far. I do still have a ways to go.. Jesi got a few of the movies when we went our separate ways :-/
Speaking of, we're getting an actual, real-life divorce! She found this website, and I looked into it, and it was legit, so I went through the process after each of us paying half (she PayPal'd me money). It's really stupid for us to still be legally married after.. nearly 8 years. One could argue it was stupid to get legally married in the first place, and even further, one could argue it's stupid for anyone to get legally married. One of my favorite comedians, Doug Stanhope (I saw him live once), has a funny line, "yo baby, our love is so great, we gotta get the GOVERNMENT in on this!" I personally don't ever want to get remarried, but I know it's immensely, crazy important to the majority of women, so I would if they wanted to. I don't feel that strongly about it. But if I had my druthers..... I do think the ceremony and Event of the whole thing is important; a way to pinpoint a day two people are unified forevermore. I just don't know about all the legal stuff.
I need new shoes. The ones I have have several holes in them. I'm honestly just too lazy to go to Goordman's (a place that offers name brand/quality stuff for a discount [like overstock etc], you can find good deals) after work and buy some, even though it's right down the road from my work. They're still sufficing...
My brother's birthday was a few days ago. He came over and the whole family celebrated. I got him a Nintendo DS video game, Legends of Hyrule. There was cake. And ice cream. And multiple babies (he has one now), but they didn't taste quite as good as the cake and ice cream. Towards the end, as he was preparing to leave, he asked me to help him carry some stuff out to his car, and asked me some questions about antidepressants, as he kinda-recently got on an SSRI to help him cope with stress from his new Postal Service job. I was more than happy to help! The side-effects can be quite a bummer though.
I got
Drawn Together for xmas, which is a huge omnibus of R. Crumb and his wife Aline's collected collaborative works that they started in the 70s until roughly now. It was kind of cool, reading towards the beginning, seeing Robert or Aline making references to "that new film Eraserhead" (came out in '77) or something haha. It took me a bazillion months to get through it all, but I did, and all because I put it in my bathroom and read a bit at a time :-D So I'm continuing doing that, and have already gotten through a few more graphic novels I probably would never have gotten around to reading otherwise:
- How to Talk to Girls at Parties by Neil Gaiman, got for xmas
- Troll Bridge by Neil Gaiman, got for xmas
- Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire by Neil Gaiman, got for xmas
- The Sleeper and the Spindle by Neil Gaiman, got for xmas
- Northlanders Vol. 1 by Brian Wood, historically accurate but fictional account of vikings, bought at a used book store
And now I'm reading Skeleton Key Vol. 1 by Andi Watson, which will probably be surmounted by the new American Atheist magazine I just got in the mail, thanks, AGAIN, to an xmas gift (my sister got me a subscription, bless her soul) (but who will bless it) (and it's not like we actually have souls) (but it's just a saying).
Speaking of mail, I just received this yesterday:
And what THAT is, is the new album by The Lightbringer, my new favorite band as of late. It's a limited-edition version of their new album Heptanity, crafted, by hand, by the band member Auraeon (aka Simon) and sent to me from Canada! It's signed by all the band members and had a sticker and an extra CD and an amazing booklet with lyrics and pics and stuff. They posted that pic on their FB page :-) I've been chatting with Simon a bit over the past few days, since he needed my paypal info. The Lightbringer are one of the best metal bands I've heard in a while (if you dig symphonic, technical metal; think Fleshgod Apocalypse, but slightly more proggy [and I do not normally like prog] and slightly more blackened) and I was more than happy to fork over the money. And that was after I paid $7 to
download Heptanity from BandCamp. The construction of the thing is really quite impressive (he's a professional wood-worker as a day job). If you're at all curious, you can listen to the whole album here! RIGHT NOW! The band endorsed this YouTube user to share it (that's how I heard about it)!

By mail, I also recently received a couple items, that might be used if a person were to ingest marijuana ;-) The site was offering free shipping. I hardly ever partake myself, but I took a couple days off from work to go to a Conor Oberst show (if you're reading Heather I thought of you the whole time!) and decided to make a small vacation out of it cuz I had some days to use, and thought "why not, I'm on vacation!" So I got some. From the site I got a "dugout" which came with a "bat," and also got a glass filter to use in my pipe. It's all very inconspicuous and works perfectly for my purposes.
Jesus christ I've written a lot. Just in one of those moods. Happy 4/20 tomorrow everyone! ;-D
