M dear friend KC Anastasio wrote her sonnet on the Brophy game. It is soo great I just had to put it up on the lj, even though she will actually shoot me. Her love of football and sports in general is so intense she will be the best sports reporter ever and I thought an lj entry was deserved.
Shall I compare thee to a Summer’s day
Though fall is here in the crisp air of night?
Twenty-two young men, on a field they play
Two teams united under Friday lights.
Butterflies in his stomach, a look in his eyes,
So intense. Ready for the biggest game
Of the year. A team of eleven guys
Who become one, same uniform, same name.
An evening of fun with wonderful friends,
Moments you recall when the day gets long,
The packed in bleachers, the laughs that don’t end
Passes and touchdowns, fumbles and fight songs.
Hugs and high fives, the sweet taste of victory
Brophy beat Saint Mary’s, oh sweet rivalry.
